O3 Model
(Objective, Obstacles, Options)
Quickly see your goal, what's blocking you, and what you can try to overcome obstacles.
How to implement
Objective
Clearly define what you want to achieve. What is your specific goal or desired outcome?
Obstacles
Identify the challenges, roadblocks, or difficulties that are preventing you from reaching your objective.
Options
Brainstorm a range of possible actions, strategies, or choices that could help you overcome the obstacles and achieve your objective.
Example
Let’s use the O3 Model for an HR department’s project to research a new conflict resolution training program.
[Objective]: To determine the feasibility and potential impact of implementing a new conflict resolution training program within the next six months.
[Obstacles]: Potential obstacles include identifying suitable training providers that fit our budget and company culture, securing employee buy-in and participation in the training, and measuring the actual impact of the training on workplace conflict.
[Options]: Some options to address these obstacles include surveying employees to gauge their interest and identify specific conflict resolution skills they need, researching and comparing different training programs and providers, conducting a pilot program with a small group of employees to assess its effectiveness, and defining key metrics to track the impact of the training on conflict levels and employee satisfaction.
